'Second to none' - Leeds United boss Daniel Farke in bold verdict regarding 'unique' Whites supporters
Leeds United are back in Championship action on Tuesday night
Leeds United boss Daniel Farke believes his club’s supporters are some of the best in the country as he called for their backing in their upcoming clash against Watford. The Whites host the Hornets on Tuesday night on the back of their 2-0 win over Sheffield United at Elland Road last Friday.
They are currently sat in 3rd place in the Championship table as they eye promotion to the Premier League. Sunderland and Burnley are above them, whilst Sheffield United, West Brom and Blackburn Rovers make up the rest of the play-off positions.
Leeds are preparing to lock horns with a Watford outfit who have lost their last four away matches on the spin. The Hornets were beaten 3-0 by rivals Luton Town over the weekend at Kenilworth Road and dropped into 8th position.
Farke wants his fans to roar on his players to another three points and has said in his pre-game press conference: “We need our supporters, they are so unique. I am grateful that they invest so much time and money, they are second to none not just in the league but the whole country. We need them tomorrow because I expect a difficult game. We have a great connection at the moment and long may that continue.”
Leeds’ upcoming clash
Leeds are always back in large numbers both home and away. They have the second highest average attendance in the league behind Sunderland. The Whites are proving to be a tough nut to crack at the moment, especially on their own patch, and will be in confident mood. Their upcoming fixture against Watford is an opportunity to keep some momentum going against a side who are struggling to get results on their travels.
However, as Farke alluded to, he is expecting a ‘difficult’ match. The Hornets have some dangerous players in attack such as Vakoun Issouf Bayo and Giorgi Chakvetadze, as well as having the experience of Moussa Sissoko, Thomas Ince and Angelo Ogbonna at their disposal.
Speaking after Leeds’ victory over Sheffield United, defender Pascal Struijk said: “The confidence with us in the group is already high. An unfortunate goal before the international break shouldn't really change what we did in the game there.
"We played really good football. We're solid as a team defensively so especially if we win these games, especially a local derby like this, then confidence can only go higher."
He added: “Six clean sheets, five wins and one draw, I think it speaks for itself. The chances that usually they would create normally like sometimes on the counter attack they will be really sharp, we were really good today. Our counter press was top and as well working as a team as a whole.
"We really work very hard defensively and that means everybody, it starts from the front, all the way to the back so I have to give the team a lot of credit for this. We work hard. We knew that they were going to be solid as well, but if we don't give away chances it's hard to concede goals."
