Mike Tindall has claimed that he is “not worried” about facing the eating trials during this year’s I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here.

The former England rugby player, 44, who is the first member of the extended royal family to join the ITV show, is set to star alongside pop star Boy George, radio presenter Chris Moyles and Lionesses footballer Jill Scott.

The past two series of the show have been filmed at Gwrych Castle in North Wales due to Covid-19 and travel restrictions. However, I’m A Celebrity is finally returning to the original location for the show in the Australian jungle.

Mike Tindall, who is from Otley in Leeds, is married to the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall and the couple share three children together, Mia, eight, Lena, four, and Lucas, one.

He explained what he was going to miss the most when he enters the jungle, saying: “First and foremost, I will miss my family. I will miss my bed too and a nice breakfast.”

James Haskell, also a former England rugby player, appeared on the 2019 series of the show and left his campmates devastated when he was voted off.

Mike Tindall shared his excitement and readiness to join the jungle, saying: “It is sinking in now that I am taking part. I am ready to rumble! I have been asked on numerous occasions to take part.

“The timing was right this year and (James) Hask did the show and had been talking about it.”

Mike Tindall joked that he would have no problem handling the notorious I’m A Celebrity trials that have seen celebrities eating everything from bugs to eyeballs.

The former rugby player said that the eating trials offered a chance to absorb “protein” during a show that is known for under feeding contestants if they don’t collect stars during challenges.

Mike said: “I am eight years out of the game now so I am a bit more realistic about food, but I know James said the lack of food can sometimes be hard.

“But at least with the eating trials, you get food in you. It might not taste very nice but at least it is serving a purpose and giving you a protein intake.

“Bring on those eating challenges.”

Mike Tindall will join the other nine campmates as they enter the jungle on Saturday 6 November at 9pm on ITV.
