From a hit-and-run driver who catapulted a pedestrian 20 metres along the road, outside a pub in Morley, to two Leeds gang members jailed for the “sadistic” 19-hour torture of a man with a blow torch.
Also in the headlines this month was a number of predatory paedophiles, including one who pulled down the pants of a 12-year-old boy while filming him.
Here are 31 of the criminals who appeared before judges at Leeds Crown Court during September.

7. Nigel Gifford
Butcher Nigel Gifford, 65, was jailed for two years and four months and gave him a new 10-year order banning him from becoming the director of a company after admitting he spent three years submitting false tax claims and managed to dupe more than £134,000 from HMRC. | WYP

8. Paul Woolsey
Paul Woolsey, 32, burst into a shop on Eastmoor Road in Wakefield, armed with a plank of wood and demanded cash from the terrified worker. He was sentenced to 27 months in jail. Woolsey was convicted in 2022 of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child, cause a child to watch a sexual act and attempting to meet an under-16 girl following grooming. | WYP

9. Agim Buci
Illegal immigrant Agim Buci, 31, was jailed for his role in a cannabis factory at Newgate House in Pontefract. 10. David Carrasco
David Carrasco, 36, who was out of jail on licence, attacked his mother and hit her so hard that her glasses were left embedded in her skin. He has 49 previous convictions for 88 offences, many for violence. The judge, Recorder David Kelly, jailed him for another 12 months. | WYP

11. Nathan Penwell
Knife-carrying Nathan Penwell, 32, made a grab for the phone of a chef outside Dunarea Grill, but did not count on the woman fighting back. Penwell, who has previous convictions for robbery, was handed a lengthy jail sentence of four years at Leeds Crown Court this week. | WYP

12. Michael Fisher
Convicted paedophile Michael Fisher hid his sordid past to befriend a family and sexually assault their young boy.
