Leeds United have still banked a profit the midfielder’s exit.

Leeds United have recorded a significant profit on the sale of Glen Kamara to Stade Rennais but reports from Scotland suggest a portion of the fee will head north to Rangers.

Kamara’s move to Rennes was confirmed on Tuesday evening, with the midfielder putting pen to paper on a four-year contract with the French outfit. The official fee remains undisclosed but the YEP understands it to be in the region of £8million, with Leeds almost doubling their money less than 12 months after signing from Rangers.

Leeds are thought to have paid somewhere between £4m and £5m for Kamara last summer but now look set to top that up, with The Daily Record reporting on a sell-on clause which will see Rangers bank a six-figure fee. The clause is believed to be worth 10 per cent, which would see £800,000 sent up to Ibrox if the fee is £8m.

That number will vary slightly, of course, based on the exact amount Rennes paid. Promotion to the Premier League might have seen Kamara stay on board but Leeds would still have had to cough up a six-figure fee, with the report adding that Rangers were due £500,000 in that instance.

Despite that, Leeds look to have banked an impressive profit on Kamara after just 11 months at Elland Road. The 28-year-old was in plans for next season but those in charge will give consideration to appropriate offers for their players and it seems the chance to effectively double money proved too good to turn down.

Daniel Farke made clear his desire for more midfield goals during the latter stages of his side’s failed promotion push and Kamara was unable to provide that, failing to find the net in 42 appearances. The Finland international was central to last season’s success, however, and insisted he would remember the short spell in West Yorkshire.

In a post on his social media channels, Kamara wrote: "I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to @leedsunited for the chance to represent this amazing club. It’s been a short journey but definitely one that I will remember for the rest of my life. To the staff, my team mates and of course the fans, I wish you all the best."

Joel Piroe was among the many former teammates to send his best wishes to Kamara, who is thought to be excited by the prospect of playing in France. Liam Cooper, Archie Gray, Luke Ayling and Joe Gelhardt also bid farewell to the Finland international.

Leeds are now short in central midfield and will expect to strengthen in that area before the summer transfer window slams shut. The club confirmed Joe Rothwell’s arrival from Bournemouth on a season-long loan last week, but the 29-year-old was expected to compete with Kamara, rather than replace him. Four goals in 17 appearances on loan at Southampton is evidence of the new arrival’s attacking threat and any further arrivals will hope to further ease the goalscoring burden on United’s attacking stars.
