Leeds United signed the defender on loan just over 12 months ago

Former Leeds United loanee Connor Roberts has said he wants to return to Swansea City one day. He is out of contract at Burnley at the end of this season and is due to become a free agent in June 2025 as things stand.

The Wales international, who is 29-years-old, is yet to pen an extension at Turf Moor and his long-term future in Lancashire is up in the air. He has made 11 appearances for the Championship side so far this season.

Leeds swooped to land him on a temporary basis in the last January window to boost their defensive department. He went on to play 16 matches for the Whites during the second-half of the last campaign and helped them reach the play-off final.

However, Daniel Farke’s side missed out on promotion to the Premier League after losing to Southampton at Wembley in the play-off final. He then returned to Burnley for pre-season and has forced his way back into their team recently under Scott Parker.

Roberts has said on the BBC Wales Sport's Feast of Football podcast: "It was strange [facing Swansea last weekend]. It's always been strange. But it's the environment we are in.

"Hopefully one day I can go back to Swansea and I can be on their team for once. There will hopefully be good memories when I do go back and play for them again. But at the moment I am a Burnley player and I want to win every game and do my best for the Burnley fans and everyone associated with that club."

After leaving Leeds last summer, he posted on Instagram: “Football ey... Obviously so disappointed not to achieve what we all wanted, but honestly what a massive privilege it was to play just a hand full [sic] of games and be involved at this incredible football club. An invaluable experience and something I’ll remember forever! Thanks for the spectacular support ladies and gents.”

He had hinted at an earlier stage that he was open to a permanent switch to Elland Road and said: “Football's a funny game, so I'll be doing my very best to make a good impression on and off the pitch and maybe in the future it can change from the straight loan but yeah, at the moment it's just come here try and help on and off the pitch.

"It's just a loan for now, but I think it would have been unbelievable to come here for the long term kind of thing, but I'm going to be incredibly privileged to play for Leeds United, whether that's a handful of times or every single game between now and the end of the season."

However, it didn’t happen in the end and Leeds pursued other targets. Roberts has been with Burnley since 2021 and has played 100 matches for them to date.

He rose up through the academy at Swansea and found the net on 11 occasions in 152 outings for the Swans, as well as having loan spells away at Yeovil Town, Bristol Rovers and Middlesbrough.
