Lone victim attacked by gang in city centre

Police are appealing for information after group of youths assaulted a 29-year-old man in Leeds city centre.

The attackers - five male and one female - attacked the lone victim in Briggate at about 4am on Saturday.

Officers believe a number of people may have witnessed the assault and they would like to anyone with information.

Temperatures set to soar for another fine day in Leeds

The warm weather is set to continue in Leeds following days of uninterrupted sunshine.

For the second day in the row it was the hottest day of 2021 so far in the UK on Tuesday, which was the first day of meteorological summer, after a toasty 25.8C was recorded in both Cardiff and Middle Wallop.

The warm weather has been a welcome break for people following a washout May, which brought heavy downpours and prolonged spells of rain to the region.

Wednesday is expected to be another fine day in Leeds, with temperatures climbing to 23C.

Detectives seeking witnesses after man, 24, assaulted in Beeston

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a 24-year-old assault victim was left needing hospital treatment.

The attack happened at around 8.50pm on Saturday in Dewsbury Road, close to the junction of Temple Road.

Officers attended the scene in Beeston and found a man who was seriously injured, police said.

Leeds sports centre closed due to “concerns” over unauthorised traveller camp

Leeds City Council has confirmed that the John Charles Centre for Sport has has been closed since Friday due to “operation concerns” that arose from an “unauthorised” traveller camp which has moved onto the site.

The centre consists of the South Leeds Stadium, Aquatics Centre, Indoor Athletics Centre and Tennis Centre.

The council said it is “actively working with partners” to ensure that the centre can re-open as soon as possible but there is no firm date as yet.
