How long final closures of Otley Bridge will last as footbridge repairs are completed

Repair work on Otley Bridge is almost complete.

A new set of overnight closures and signed diversions, will get underway between 8pm-5.30am on Otley Bridge, from Monday, November 10 to Wednesday, November 12.

These full overnight closures are needed to carry out the removal of the concrete barrier, existing road lining and reinstatement of bridge lining.

The following lane closures will remain in place to accommodate access for pedestrians during excavation works as part of essential Northern PowerGrid works. Power cables will be re-routed from the temporary footbridge back to the new footway.

  • From 8pm to 5.30am, starting Thursday, November 6 to Friday, November 7.
  • Further lane closures will be in place day and night over the weekend from 8pm Friday, November 7, until 5.30am Monday, November 10.
  • A second weekend of day and night lane closures will start from 8pm Friday, November 14, until 5.30am Monday, November 17.

Typical construction noise is expected during these remaining works, but efforts will be made to carry out noisier activities earlier in the night to reduce disruption.

If all goes to plan, the team at Connecting Leeds are hopeful that the new footway could be open sometime before the end of November.

Works to replace the bridge’s main footway got underway earlier this year after it fell into disrepair. A new temporary bridge, installed after the controversial felling of an 150-180-year-old oak tree, will remain in place for the remainder of the works.
