New speed limit signs set to be installed as Lawnswood roundabout revamp continues
New speed limit signs are set to be installed as part of ongoing construction works to Lawnswood roundabout.
Construction work to improve safety at the Lawnswood roundabout junction of the A6120 Outer Ring Road and A660 Otley Road, in north Leeds got underway in August 2026.
As part of plans to improve facilities for walking, wheeling and cycling across the Lawnswood junction, the speed limit is set to be cut from 70 mph down to 40 and 50mph.

Signage for the new speed limit is set to be installed from Monday (February 23) according to a letter published by Councillor Barry Anderson.
The letter said: “Dear Councillor, My contractor will be starting work on A6120 to install the new Speed Limit signs from Monday 23rd February, please find attached letter that will be sent to local business and affected properties. Regards Group Engineer Leeds City Council.”
The scheme forms part of the Connecting Leeds strategy to maintain and improve Leeds’ Inner and Outer Ring Roads and is expected to take around 12 months to complete.
It will be funded predominantly by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority through the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement and the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund Corridor Improvement Programme Phase 2, with a small amount of Section 106 Developer Contributions.
The A660 corridor, which has a poor safety record, has a high volume of cyclists, pedestrians and bus users, but lacks adequate crossing facilities - a major barrier for walking and cycling, especially given the proximity to Lawnswood school.
