A660 revamp in Leeds reaches final stages as Hyde Park Corner resurfacing work completed

Multi-million pound plans to revamp a crucial junction in north Leeds are nearing completion.

For over a year, work has been ongoing to the A660 Otley Road and Headingley Lane as part of a £10.4 million improvement scheme aimed at delivering a segregated inbound and outbound cycle track along the route.

Now, ward councillors for Headingley and Hyde Park, Abdul Hannan and Jonathan Pryor have confirmed that the current stage of works are nearing completion after resurfacing work around Hyde Park Corner was finished.

“Some residents have been in touch with us about this scheme, and once the work is complete we will be evaluating its impact on the entire stretch, so we can differentiate what disruption is only temporary from the roadworks themselves,” the pair said in a post to Facebook.

Delivered alongside major upgrades to the North Lane junction, the work forms part of Leeds City Council’s plan to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, while speeding up bus journeys between Headingley and the city centre.

Traffic signals along the route are in the process of being commissioned and will be working by the end of the month, and planting will take place in the next few weeks to ensure the health and longevity of the greenery.

Between Shaw Lane and Richmond Avenue meanwhile, the final pieces of work are being done, with this work mainly being undertaken overnight to minimise disruption.

The junctions are also nearly complete, and then the new surface will be laid and markings added. This is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month.
