Former Leeds school building goes up for auction with £500,000 price tag
“The council has no use for the site.”
A former school building in Leeds has gone on the market for £500,000 as the council seeks to raise cash from property sales.
The Burley Park centre on Cardigan Lane will be sold by auction by Leeds City Council.
A council report said the site was surplus to requirements and had been heavily vandalised since standing empty from 2016.

It said: “The council has no use for the site. Disposal of the site will result in a capital receipt for the council as well as absolving the council of any retention and maintenance costs.”
Auction company BTG Eddisons said the site could be redeveloped into housing.
The auction website said: “The property sits within the Burley Village Conservation Area and occupies a prominent position on the west side of Cardigan Lane.
“The surrounding area is predominantly residential, with local amenities and excellent public transport links readily available.”
The building was close to Leeds city centre and Burley St Matthias CE Primary School, the report said.
It said: “Interested parties should make their own enquiries with Leeds City Council regarding their proposed use.
“The buildings have been subject to significant vandalism and are unable to be viewed internally. Purchasers are required to undertake their own investigations.”
The council report said auction was deemed the best way of disposing of the site.
It said: “There is a risk that the site may not sell. However, this is considered low given recent auction results which demonstrate strong interest in similar properties of this type and value.”
The auction site said the property would go up for auction with a guide price of £500,000-plus.
