The Box Tree furniture and artwork goes under the hammer before £500k revamp
You could own a piece of the restaurant’s history
Collectors and fans of The Box Tree have the chance to own a piece of the restaurant’s history as its distinctive contents are set to be auctioned before a significant refurbishment.
A selection of furniture, artwork and decorative items from the Ilkley restaurant will be auctioned at Tennants Auctioneers in Leyburn, giving admirers the opportunity to purchase unique pieces from the renowned spot.

Seventy lots will be available, including highlights such as a pair of Italian greyhound ceramics, an 18th Century carved oak box settle, Chinoiserie parcel gilt red lacquer lamp tables, and an 18th Century British school ‘Portrait of a Scholar or Clergyman’.
The auction will also feature an eclectic mix of items, from a life-size model of a Macaw Parrot to modern decorative table lamps, copperware, Herend porcelain ducks and more.
The Box Tree, which originally opened in a 1720 Yorkshire stone farmhouse, closed its doors on August 1 to prepare for a £500,000 refurbishment.

The restaurant is scheduled to reopen on September 9, with the revamp aiming to "respect the warmth, character and heritage that have defined the restaurant since 1962".
Over the decades, The Box Tree has built a celebrated reputation, earning two Michelin stars in 1977 and hosting chefs such as Marco Pierre White. The auction will take place on September 4 as part of Tennants’ antiques and interiors sale.
Prospective buyers can view the items in person at the Leyburn salerooms on September 2 and 3, or browse a fully illustrated catalogue on the Tennants website ahead of the sale.
