A new gym has opened in a Leeds suburb today.

Groop welcomed its first customers into its new venue in Pelham Place, in Chapel Allerton this morning.

A personal training gym by design, its founders hope to encourage more people to get fit and reap the benefits of small-group workouts that will not only boost movement but also provide nutritional and lifestyle support.

Behind the new opening are Tony and Charlene Barnes, founder of Graft Häus Gym in Kirkstall. The couple have been working on this new project for about a year, largely by themselves, aiming to bring something unique to Leeds.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Tony said: “The Graft Haus is for self motivated people who know what they're doing and Groop is for people who know they need to be fitter and healthier but don't necessarily know how to do that or don't enjoy the process of doing that on their own.

“For all of it to come together and see people come in happy and leave happier, it’s fabulous. It’s exactly what we were hoping to do.

“In a years’ time, we would like to help hundreds of people in Chapel Allerton find a new way to create a leaner, stronger version of themselves so that they can live a happy long life.”

The business has three personal trainers, who will each work with a maximum number of eight people at one time.

Sessions begin as early as 6am with final sessions starting at 9pm on weekdays. Weekend times differ with the business open a few hours in the morning, at the moment.

Tony said: “There's a lot of flexibility built in, so people can work around work schedules, child schedules, other lifestyle habits and so forth.

“And then as a client list expands, we'll be adding in more hours and more sessions to go along with more trainers to cope with demand.”
