Cinnabon Leeds: US bakery chain to shut all remaining UK stores after 'strategic decision'

A popular American bakery chain has announced the closure of its Leeds store.

Cinnabon, the American bakery chain famous for its cinnamon rolls, has shut all 12 of its UK stores, less than five years after first launching.

The chain was initially brought to the UK in partnership with Cooplands bakery owner EG Group in 2020 and planned to open 150 Cinnabon bakeries across the country over five years as part of a master franchise deal.

Cinnabon Leeds, located on Commercial Street in the city centre, is among the sites to have permanently shut up shop. Opening in November 2023, it was the chain’s second Leeds site, after Plantation Services in Gildersome, which was previously shut.

An EG spokesperson said: “EG On The Move has made the strategic decision to close all Cinnabon locations operated in the UK. This was not a decision taken lightly, but it reflects the strategic shift to focus on our core convenience retail business.

“This decision aligns with our wider business strategy to focus on areas where we can deliver the greatest value to our customers. We extend our sincere thanks to our team members for their dedication, to the Cinnabon brand team for their ongoing partnership, and to our customers for their loyalty and support.”

All 12 of Cinnabon’s UK locations, which are spread across high streets, shopping centres and petrol forecourts, have now closed.

The chain’s other closed sites include its Cinnabon Drive Thru in Wakefield and on Deansgate in Manchester.

Cinnabon was founded in Washington in 1985 and operates more than 1,200 locations worldwide.
