Leeds rugby league club product who played at Castleford Tigers signs for Super League side
A former Leeds amateur player who spent time at Castleford Tigers has signed a Super League contract.
Winger Andy Djeukessi joins York Knights from Newcastle Thunder, who were their partner club in 2026, on a one-year deal. Djeukessi played open-age rugby for East Leeds in the National Conference before joining Tigers’ reserves.
He made one top-flight appearance in 2025 and scored six tries in five games on loan with Championship outfit Workington Town the same year before joining Newcastle ahead of last season.

He crossed 21 times in 23 matches for Thunder and featured on loan with York in a home Super League win against Saints, a year to the day after facing the same opposition on his Tigers debut.
Knights coach Mark Applegarth said: “He got a taste of Super League last year and I’m keen to let him build on that. Obviously he’s still young and raw and he has got plenty of developing in him, but his athletic potential is really good.
“He has got some really good attributes that suit top-level rugby league. I’m looking forward to working with him again.”
Djeukessi, 23, added: “It means a lot to sign on this year. I’m excited to do my part and build on what was a historic year for the club.”
