Leeds Knights get back to home comforts while power play finds some welcome joy

LEEDS KNIGHTS coach Ryan Aldridge admitted he was pleased to see his team enjoy some home comforts for a change, following their 5-0 win over Solway on Friday night.

This season, the Knights have lost three times at Elland Road, 2-1 on opening night to Hull Seahawks, an 8-2 hammering at the hands of Milton Keynes Lightning and a 3-2 overtime defeat to Basingstoke Bison.

Their only other win came on September 26 when they thrashed Peterborough Phantoms 9-2.

Aldridge’s sleep was made even more peaceful on Friday night thanks to his team also bagging two power play goals against their Scottish rivals.

A 26th-minute strike from defenceman Sam Dunn was followed three minutes later by a Piam Peyton strike on the man advantage but, heading into Sunday night’s trip to Telford Tigers, the Knights still rank last in NIHL National in terms of their power play - 17.65 per cent.

“We probably celebrated those two goals a little bit harder (than the others) because the power play has never been our strong point,” said Aldridge, “So to get two nice power play goals was great.

“The lines have changed slightly because of different things, but they were two nice goals.

“We finally played well at home which was good to see. We didn't do great in the last 30 minutes, but when you want perfection, you don’t always get it.”
