"Lucky us" - Marco Rose makes Leeds United admission in Bournemouth victory verdict and Whites attack view
Bournemouth boss Marco Rose on Leeds United and Saturday’s 2-0 victory against the Whites.
Bournemouth boss Marco Rose served up praise for Leeds United with an honest admission in his verdict of Saturday’s 2-0 victory against Daniel Farke’s Whites.
Rose’s side went into Saturday’s Premier League clash at the Vitality Stadium having won their last five games in all competitions without conceding a goal but Leeds initially dominated as the Cherries struggled to get going.
The Whites looked to have gone ahead midway through the first half when Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted a James Justin cross but VAR intervened to disallow the goal for a Calvert-Lewin handball and some ten minutes later a bad error from Leeds keeper James Trafford led to the Cherries taking the lead.
Trafford’s attempted pass out of defence for Ao Tanaka was intercepted by Justin Kluivert who unselfishly squared for Evanilson to convert an easy finish which looked set to prove the only goal of the game.
Bournemouth eventually bagged a second goal deep in second half stoppage time as Junior Kroupi played in Amin Aldi to convert, his strike sealing a 2-0 win for Rose’s side who moved above Leeds into seventh place in the Premier League table.
United have now dropped to 11th but Rose admitted Leeds were the better side to start with and that his men were struggling, the Cherries boss also relieved at a slice of luck for the disallowed goal.
“We knew it was going to be a different challenge against a really good opponent,” said Rose at his post-match press conference.
"Leeds matched up our intensity, in the first 10-15 minutes they were even better in this part.
"It was not given and lucky us”
"We lost some duels and then we conceded the goal.
"It was not given and lucky us and then I felt that we got a little bit better into the game and then we rewarded ourselves for our front footed approach as we won a high ball and scored an easy goal. But it's hard work.
"And then it was an open game, an open fight, and at the end we had Junior with a top assist and Amin with fresh legs who just finished the game.
"A difficult, a game difficult opponent and I'm really happy that we solved the challenge."
Askes about nullifying a Leeds attack spearheaded by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Rose declared: “Certainly I'm quite happy with our defence, but not just with our defence. The whole team is working quite hard to avoid golds and to keep the space compact, to win balls.
"As I said, it's always about teamwork, but our central defenders and our full backs are doing a great job.
"Leeds in the first half today, tried to stretch us with their approach and we suffered sometimes in some moments because they had really good positioning with their tens and we didn't know when to jump, how to jump, if we jump.
"We were sometimes a little bit too late so it was a tough challenge and tough job today."
