West Yorkshire Playhouse first opened for business as a successor to the original Leeds Playhouse in 1990. The photo is one of 21 charting the 12 months in the life of Leeds city centre. It was also a year which featured the unveiling of a head-turning mural and question marks over the future of a much-loved bookshop and historic buildings near The Calls. The photos are a mix from the YEP archive and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
