As heavy snow came down and blanketed Leeds, hardy refuse collectors battled through the snow to collect as many bins as possible.

Although bin collections have now been suspended by Leeds Council, the bin lorries had been out trying to make as many collections as possible.

Binmen Chris Oliver and Paul Walker then decided to have a bit of fun on their round - by creating this parody video.

Chris said: "We did this in Harehills, I built the snowman. I jumped out of the wagon and built it and also filmed it. Don't sack him - it's just a bit of fun.

"We all need a laugh - here's some entertainment for you."

Chris filmed Paul knocking over a little snowman built on top of the black bin, shouting 'hey that's how it's done!' as Paul collected the bin.

That may not seem particularly noteworthy - but they were spoofing a story reported in the national media this week.

Binman Callum Woodhouse was sacked from his bin round down south in Herefordshire after he knocked over a snowman while on duty.

Callum had boasted about being the “snowman killer” despite claiming he had apologised to the family.

Speaking from his home in Kingstone, Herefordshire, he said: “The snowman was obstructing my work and it was going to melt anyway.

“I didn’t really have any other reason for kicking it. I saw it melting so I thought I’d kick it. I’m the snowman killer, aren’t I.”

“I’ve apologised to the family. I messaged them on the day it blew up [on social media] but they blocked me.”

Asked what he felt about losing his job, he said: “It’s a hard time. It’s a pandemic, innit.”

Woodhouse, who said he is about to become a dad, added: “I’m out of work now, just for kicking a snowman."
