Leeds weather: Thunderstorms predicted for city in latest BBC weather forecast

Residents are warned of ‘extreme’ heat over the coming days ⚠️

Thunderstorms are set to provide a break from the heatwave in Leeds, according to a new weather forecast.

The Met Office is warning of “extreme heat” in the city from tomorrow (June 24) until Thursday (June 25). Temperatures are expected to remain above 30C until the weekend.

Leeds City Council announced that bins are set to be collected earlier than usual. The move has been made to help protect workers from the heat.

However, while the ‘extreme’ heat is set to continue over the next 48 hours, thunderstorms could provide a bit of relief later in the week. The BBC Weather forecast is currently predicting stormy conditions on Friday (June 26) - at least as of Tuesday (June 23) evening.

The website is showing thunderstorms between 11am and 1pm and again between 2pm and 5pm. There is a further chance of more storms at 7pm - with rain showers also predicted.

It will also remain very warm on Friday with highs of 31C, according to BBC Weather. Temperatures are currently expected to drop from Saturday (June 27) when it will fall below 30C again.

However, weather forecasts are variable and can change. Make sure to keep checking over the next few days.

Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said: “The Met Office is flagging 39C as a headline maximum temperature on Thursday, most likely for somewhere in London or the South East.

“It is possible we could see temperatures higher than the 39C if the final values are at the upper end of our narrow range.

“It is important to remember that the temperature value is only one element of this extreme heatwave story.

“The other major factor is the high humidity which for many will make the intense heat even harder to endure.”
