Leeds bin collection time changed due to 'extreme' weather

Don’t get caught out over the next 48 hours! ⚠️

Leeds residents are being warned that the bin collection times are being changed this week due to the on-going heatwave.

An amber ‘extreme health’ warning is set to come into place for the city from tomorrow (June 24). The Met Office warns: “Hot and humid weather is expected to continue through the middle of the week, with exceptionally warm temperatures both day and night.”

LNER has already warned travellers against travelling where possible over the coming days. Find out more here.

In a big change, bins are going to be collected from an earlier time over the next 48 hours, the council has announced.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the official Leeds Recycles account wrote: “🌞🚨Due to the heatwave #Leeds bin collections will start earlier Wed & Thu. Please put bins out the night before as crews will start collecting from 5:30am.

“It's tough work with crews emptying 1,200 bins or 18 tonnes daily so this will help them stay safe & get the job done too 😎.”

You can check the council’s website to remind yourself of your bin collection date here. Make sure you don’t get caught out by the change.
