Leeds sports pitches closed for third weekend as torrential rain forecast for city

All Leeds Council sports pitches will close for the third consecutive weekend due to severe weather conditions.

Recent snow and heavy rain has left pitches waterlogged and further rain is expected this weekend.

Forecasters predict more than 12 hours of of non-stop heavy rain on Friday, with further showers forecast over Saturday night.

It is the third consecutive weekend that the council has been forced to close its sports pitches due to adverse weather.

Leeds Council tweeted: "Due to recent severe weather conditions, all Leeds City Council sports pitches will be closed this weekend."

The Met Office weekend forecast for Leeds says: "Rain, heavy at times, clearing Saturday morning.

"Showers thereafter turning wintry and heavy at times.

"Showers prolonged on Sunday and accompanied by strong winds. Further showers Monday but less windy."
