This Leeds city centre street is at risk of flooding - as forecasters warn of ice

A flood warning has been issued for a Leeds city centre street on Tuesday as forecasters warn of icy conditions across the rest of the city.

The Rive Aire is at 'immediate risk' of bursting at Neptune Street, by the Canal and River Trust car park, the flood information service warns.

The flood warning was issued on Monday evening after persistent heavy rainfall and melting snow caused river levels to peak.

Although river levels are falling, further rain is forecast for Tuesday and the Met Office has issued a weather warning for ice in Leeds and wet surfaces freeze over.

Forecasters warn: "Further wintry showers across the north of the UK, with icy patches leading to possible hazardous travel.

"Some roads and railways affected, leading to longer journey times by car, bus and train.

"Increased chance of injuries and accidents on icy pavements and cycle paths."

Wintry showers are expected to fall in Leeds until 11am and drivers and pedestrians are warned to expect icy patches throughout the morning.

It will stay largely dry throughout the afternoon, but there is a risk of further showers until 7pm.

Maximum temperatures will be 5C.
