"Immediate action required": Flood warning issued for River Aire in Leeds City Centre

Flooding is expected at Neptune Street and the adjoining Canal & River Trust car park, the Environment Agency said.

A flood warning means people in the area should: turn off gas, water and electricity; move things upstairs or to safety and move family, pets and car to safety.

The River Aire has been rising throughout the day, increasing from 1.3m at 6am to 1.74m at 3.30pm.

There are also flood alerts - meaning flooding is possible - at the Wyke Beck, Meanwood Beck and Wortley Beck catchments and the Middle River Aire catchment.

A yellow weather warning remains in place across Leeds until 10am on Tuesday, with forecasters predicting icy patches due to wintry showers could lead to possible hazardous travel across the north.

The bleak outlook follows more than a fortnight of downpours and flooding that started with Storm Ciara, continued with Storm Dennis and kept going with the weekend's storms.
