Ice warning issued for Leeds on Tuesday as more freezing weather on way

The snow and rain that has fallen Leeds is set to turn to ice tonight (Monday) and into Tuesday.

Weather forecasters at the Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for ice for Leeds, starting at 8pm tonight (Monday).

Some roads and railways affected, leading to longer journey times by car, bus and train and there is an increased chance of injuries and accidents on icy pavements and cycle paths.

The weather warning is set to end on Tuesday at 10pm.

It will be less windy on Tuesday , although cold in the brisk northwesterly breeze.

The top temperature will be five degrees.

Leeds was soon swathed in snow on Monday morning, causing chaos on the early morning commute with traffic quickly grinding to a halt in parts of the city.

Some drivers were reporting delays of up to two hours in getting to work due to the wintry conditions, with various crashes on the road.

On the A58 in Scarcroft, one car flipped on its roof in the icy conditions at 7.30am and in Pudsey, a bus caused huge backlog after becoming stuck on the road.

A total of 14 schools across Leeds, including Leeds West Academy, Guiseley School and Allerton High School, made the decision to open later, for the safety of staff and pupils, but most were open by 10am.
