M62: Motorway near Leeds reopens after 12-hour closure as man dies and another injured in crash

Motorists faced severe delays on the M62 in West Yorkshire today following a fatal crash near Leeds.

The motorway was closed in both directions, between J24 at Ainley Top Interchange (Huddersfield, Halifax A629) and J22 Rockingstone Interchange (Saddleworth, A672) for around 12 hours after the crash.

West Yorkshire Police were called to the scene and the stretch of the M62 was shut to traffic, National Highways said.

The force confirmed on Saturday that a man has died while another was left with serious injuries.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were also been called out to the scene, which happened at about 2.15am today (Saturday).

National Highways has posted an update on X. One of the carriageways has opened while the other remains closed:

National Highways have confirmed that the M62 has now fully re-opened in both directions.
