The Mad Men of advertising might say happiness is freedom from fear but residents in cities, towns and villages across Yorkshire point to a sense of belonging as the most important contributor towards the ultimate feel good factor. In addition having a strong sense of community and polite and friendly people also ranks high. Rightmove’s Happy at Home study, now in its 11th year, asked over 21,000 people how they feel about where they live. 7. Halifax
Well known as a centre of England's woollen manufacture from the 15th century onward, originally dealing through the Halifax Piece Hall. It is internationally famous for its Mackintosh chocolate and toffee (now owned by Nestlé), the Halifax Bank, Halifax RLFC, The Gibbet and Shibden Hall. 8. Grimsby

10. Leeds

11. Huddersfield
A town in the foothills of the Pennines. It is the birthplace of rugby league with the local team, Huddersfield Giants, playing in the Super League. The town centre has much neoclassical Victorian architecture, one example is its railway station which is a Grade I listed building - described by post John Betjeman as "the most splendid station façade in England" It is rated the 10th happiest place in Yorkshire and 166 in the national rankings.
