Morrisons Castleford: Two charged after man 'suffered broken bones' trying to stop handbag robbery

Two people have been charged after a man was injured when he tried to intervene in a robbery in a supermarket car park in Castleford.

Police were told that a man had robbed a woman of her handbag outside the Morrisons store on Enterprise Way at around 2pm on Sunday (September 1), before getting into a car driven by a woman.

The man held on to the car as it drove onto Lumley Street, but eventually fell off and suffered broken bones.

After further investigation, officers were able to arrest Lisa Jane Burgess, 44, and Keith Wilcox, 41, both of Church Lane Avenue in Outwood, Wakefield.

The man and woman have both been charged with robbery. Additionally, Burgess has been charged with fraud by false representation, section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and driving a motor vehicle dangerously.

They were both remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, September 3), where they were further remanded to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 1 October.
