Popular pub reopens after major transformation - with new live music venue
The venue is returning to its musical roots
A Wakefield city centre pub has reopened after a major refurbishment, with the Bank Street venue combining a fresh look with plans for a new live music space.
The Hop and Cobbles, formerly The Hop, is back open to customers after a transformation that keeps its traditional pub feel while introducing a series of new features.
Among the changes are pool tables, dart boards and a new pie menu, while the biggest development is the conversion of the former Alter Ego bar into Backroom, a dedicated live music venue.

Backroom is expected to host grassroots artists, emerging local talent and touring bands, bringing live performances back to the building.
It will also mark a return to the venue’s musical roots, with live music having been part of The Hop when it first opened in 2008.
A spokesperson for the venue said the refurbishment was about “giving the pub a fresh new look while retaining the character and atmosphere of a traditional pub.”
Backroom is expected to open later this month, adding another live entertainment venue to Wakefield city centre.
