'One of the most gorgeous bites I’ve ever had': Leeds restaurant receives glowing verdict from food reviewers

A Leeds-based restaurant has received a glowing seal of approval after a visit from popular online food reviewers.

Sqew is no stranger to accolades, having bagged prestigious awards since opening on Duncan Street in 2021, including the title of the UK's best kebab on two occasions.

Beyond awards, the shawarma bar has caught the eye of online foodies Bite Twice Food Reviewers, a London-based Instagram account with nearly 300,000 followers.

Visiting the restaurant’s Manchester branch on Deansgate, which opened in September 2025, duo Gerry del Duercio and Paul Delany set out to answer a simple question: “Is this really the UK’s best Shawarma?”

Judging by their response, it’s fair to say that’s another claim Leeds can be proud of.

Rating their wrap a 9.2 out of 10, the duo said: “I can tell you already we’re in for a treat. The quality of meat, cuts on that spit, look outstanding.”

After biting into the shawarma, they continued: “That was one of the most juicy, flavour-filled, gorgeous bites into anything that I’ve ever had.

“It’s sweet, it’s salty, it’s got texture. But that meat, the quality of the chicken, it’s outstanding. It’s been seasoned to perfection.

“This is taking the humble shawarma wrap to absolute heights, my God.”

“Up there with the top three best shawarmas I’ve ever had in my life,” they concluded. “Probably joint top with Fostok Halab, which is massive praise. 9.1. Why not, 9.2. What you gonna do about it?”

Responding to the video, Sqew commented: “Watched this 10 times. The biggest goosebumps. Thanks guys, made mine and the team’s day!”
