Primark confirms opening date for new Wakefield store and closure of old shop
The new outlet will cover 30,000 sq ft of retail space
Primark has revealed the official opening date for its new Wakefield store, set to welcome customers at 9am on Friday, November 27.
This marks a significant relocation for the retailer, which will be moving from its existing premises at The Ridings Shopping Centre.
The current Primark store will close permanently at 5.30pm on Thursday, November 26, creating a brief interval before the new store opens.

The retailer is taking over the former Debenhams unit at Trinity Walk, maintaining its presence in the heart of Wakefield city centre.
The new outlet will provide 30,000 sq ft of retail space on a single floor, slightly larger than the previous location. Shoppers can expect a modernised environment featuring upgraded fixtures, enhanced signage, and new display units.
Additionally, the store will introduce Primark’s Click & Collect service, expanding access to a broader range of products via the Primark website.
Staffing will see continuity and growth, with all 80 current employees transferring to the new store. An additional 40 colleagues have been hired, bringing the total workforce to approximately 120.
Neil Ford, Primark’s Director of Sales for the Midlands and West, commented: “We’ve been proud to serve customers in Wakefield for more than 30 years, and we’re delighted to be continuing that journey from our new home at Trinity Walk.
“The move gives us an opportunity to create an even better shopping experience for our customers while continuing to offer the great value fashion and everyday essentials they know and love from Primark.”
The timing of the opening, just before the Christmas season, positions the new store as a key destination for gifts, partywear, winter clothing, and homeware.
James White, Trinity Walk Centre Manager, highlighted the impact of the new tenancy: “Thanks to Primark and Tenpin, the iconic former Debenhams unit will be fully reborn, which is testament to these brands and the attraction of Wakefield as a city to do business, visit and shop.
“Huge credit to Primark for their investment and dedication to providing superb high street shopping in the Merrie City and we can’t wait to see them open their doors here at Trinity Walk.”
