I visited a cosy Leeds restaurant serving generous portions of authentic Indian street food for under £10
There’s a big range of street food for under £10
Sometimes the best food experiences come from the places you might almost walk past without realising what you are missing. Delhi Wala Food is one of those Leeds restaurants.
Small, cosy and welcoming, it has an unassuming feel that makes it all the more enjoyable when the food starts arriving.
I visited with a colleague for lunch, and it quickly became clear that our eyes were considerably bigger than our bellies.

Delhi Wala Food takes its inspiration from the street food and culinary traditions of Delhi, with chef Nitin Sharma bringing his own experience and heritage into the kitchen.
The focus is on fresh ingredients, traditional flavours and food that feels authentic rather than adapted beyond recognition.
There is also a sizeable menu catering for different tastes, including plenty of vegan options. The restaurant has plenty of awards on display, and after trying the food, it is easy to see why.
We kicked things off with a papad basket and chutney tray, which was a great way to get started and offered a little introduction to the flavours to come. With plenty still to follow, it was probably the point at which we should have shown some restraint. Naturally, we didn't.

The first dish to really catch my attention was the chilli paneer, served with rice and honey chilli potatoes. This was an interesting introduction to the Indo-Chinese side of the menu, bringing together Indian flavours with a style of cooking that you don't always find done particularly well in the city.
The paneer made for a satisfying centrepiece, while the sweet and spicy potatoes added another layer to the plate. It was a welcome change from the more familiar Indian dishes and something I would happily order again.
We also tried the aloo paratha, a stuffed flatbread filled with spiced potato, served with dal makhani, raita and the traditional accompaniments. Alongside that came the non-veg thali, which was a real feast in itself.
Featuring the chef's special meat curry of the day, dal, vegetable curry, rice, bread, salad, raita, papad and even a sweet to finish, it offered a brilliant way to sample several dishes in one sitting. It was generous, varied and exactly the sort of meal that encourages you to take your time and work your way through everything.
Masala fries rounded things off, although by this point we were beginning to question quite how much we had ordered.
A couple of refreshing cokes helped wash everything down, and the friendly service made the whole lunch feel relaxed and enjoyable. Despite having ordered enough food for a much bigger group, we never felt rushed and had plenty of time to enjoy the meal.
The bill came to £51, which, considering the amount we ordered, felt very reasonable. We probably could have ordered less, but with nearly every option on the lunch menu coming in under £10, Delhi Wala Food is a great shout for a weekday lunch.
The portions are generous, the choice is extensive and the value is genuinely impressive.
