Changing Leeds - Life in the city centre during the 1930s

It was a decade which brought new landmarks to the cityscape.

The 1930s saw the opening of Leeds Civic Hall by King George V and Queen Mary (August 1933) while BBC opened Broadcasting House on Woodhouse Lane (1933). The decade also saw the opening of Leeds Central bus station (1938) and the first flats occupied at Quarry Hill (March 1938). Enjoy these photos published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, run by Leeds Library & Information Service, showcasing a city on the rise.
