Sandblasting the Royal Hotel in Morley Bottoms early in the 1970s in order to clean up the facade. At this time the hotel would be just over a hundred years old since it had been fairly recently opened when disaster struck at Morley Main Colliery in October 1872 and 34 colliers were killed. Leeds International Pool on Westgate. Designed by John Poulson, the pool opened on September 23, 1967. In the first six months the new swimming facilities were used by 220,000 people.
