The new Tier 3 measures mean that pubs, bars, casinos and adult gaming centres must be immediately shut - on top of all the Tier 2 rules remaining in place.

Household mixing remains banned and mixing in private gardens is now also banned.

Only some public spaces such as parks and beaches allow household mixing, and then the rule of six must still be followed as well as social distancing.

All casinos, soft play areas, adult gaming centres, betting shops and car boot sales must close.

Gyms may continue to open, but the guidance is against indoor exercise classes taking place.

The restrictions are enforceable by law and police are able to fine people breaking lockdown Tier 3 restrictions up to £10,000 for a large breach.

The Tier 3 measures apply across all of West Yorkshire, but North Yorkshire is to remain in Tier 1 and York in Tier 2 for now.

Where are the boundaries of Leeds and which areas will go into Tier 3?

The new restrictions will apply across the whole of the Leeds district, as well as Wakefield, Calderdale, Kirklees and Bradford.

If you have your bins emptied by Leeds council, you will be included in the restrictions.

If you have your bins emptied by a North Yorkshire District Council, you will remain in Tier 1.

What's changed under Tier 3 rules for Leeds?

In full, the rules are:

-People must not meet socially with friends and family indoors in any setting unless they are part of their household or support bubble. This includes private homes and indoors in hospitality venues, such as pubs.

-People must not meet with people outside of their household or support bubble in a private garden or in most outdoor public venues.

-People can continue to see friends and family in groups of six or less that they don’t live with (or have formed a support bubble with) in certain outdoor public spaces, such as a park or public garden.

-Wedding receptions will not be permitted, but couples can get married with a maximum of 15 people at the ceremony (check with the venue for additional restrictions).

-Funerals can be attended by up to 30 people; 15 may attend wakes and other commemorative events (check with the venue for additional restrictions).

-Avoid travelling outside the Very High alert area or entering a Very High alert level area, other than for work, education or for caring responsibilities, or to travel through as part of a longer journey.

-Avoid staying overnight in another part of the UK.

-All pubs and bars must close unless they are serving substantial meals, such as a main lunchtime or evening meal. They can only serve alcohol as part of a meal. Pubs, bars and restaurants must still close between 10pm and 5am. Shisha bars must not serve shisha, but can open as cafés.

-All casinos, soft play areas, adult gaming centres, betting shops and car boot sales must close.

What are the exceptions to Tier 3 rules in Leeds?

People can still come inside your home for specific purposes. These include:

- Where everyone in the gathering lives together or is in the same support bubble;

- To attend a birth at the mother’s request

- To visit a person who is dying; to fulfil a legal obligation

- For work purposes, or for the provision of voluntary or charitable services

- For the purposes of education or training

- For the purposes of childcare

- To provide emergency assistance

- To enable one or more persons in the gathering to avoid injury or illness or to escape a risk of harm

- To help someone move house

- To provide care or assistance to a vulnerable person

- Existing arrangements for access to, and contact between, parents and children where the children do not live in the same household as their parents, or one of their parents will remain exempt.

- Friends and family can also still provide informal childcare for children under 14.
