“This is obviously a very difficult decision for anyone to take. We recognise the significance of the economic impact this will have and we are very mindful the virus is at a state where we need to take measures, in particular with regards to our hospitals.

Clearly a significant moment for Leeds and WY moving forward in tackling the virus.”

The note to media said: "The media are invited to a briefing held via Zoom today at 5pm to discuss an update relating to Covid-19 restrictions here in Leeds.

"Should the media briefing need to be cancelled at short notice due to the rapidly moving situation we will inform you as soon as we possibly can.
