Leeds pub to close for £300,000 makeover into stadium-style 'Grandstand' sports venue
A popular Middleton pub is set to temporarily close its doors for a major £300,000 transformation, reopening as a state-of-the-art 'Grandstand' sports venue complete with tiered seating, massive screens, and a revamped beer garden
The Falconers Rest in Middleton is preparing for a complete transformation as brewery operator Marston’s rolls out its new 'Grandstand' sports pub concept to the site.
The community pub will close to enable extensive interior and exterior work designed to deliver an electric matchday experience for local fans.
Inside, the pub is being fitted with market-leading technology, including multiple giant HD screens, an immersive sound system, and flexible tiered seating to give every customer a stadium-style view of the action.

Outside, the beer garden is also undergoing a full revamp, complete with new outdoor screens and digital table ordering via the Marston’s app.
To celebrate the area's heritage, the pub is calling on the local community to submit photos and memorabilia highlighting Middleton's sports stars and local teams past and present to feature on its new display walls.
Marston’s Operations Manager, Zoe Eastwood, said: “We will have some amazing new technology, food and drink offers and events, and we want as many local people to be featured on our walls as possible. We can’t wait to welcome all our regulars and some new faces in, to see the new and improved Falconers Rest.”
Matchday menus & team black cards
When the pub reopens, it will screen all major live sporting events—including Premier League and international football, rugby league, cricket, tennis, F1, darts, and horse racing.
Regulation dartboards and pool tables are also returning, alongside new local competition leagues and free-to-play sessions.
The transformation introduces a brand-new 'Match Day Menu' featuring shareable hand-held bites such as chicken wings, nachos, and burgers, alongside 2-pint cups for all draught beers.
Local sports clubs will also be able to sign up for a pub 'Black Card', granting teams exclusive discounts, rewards for post-match celebrations, and complimentary endless fries on team nights.
Industry research shows 8.5 million UK adults watch live sport in pubs, with 86% favouring dedicated sports venues for their atmosphere, superior audio-visual setups, and social environment.
The Falconers Rest in Middleton will close on October 26 before reopening on November 18—visit the official website of The Falconers Rest to find out more or book a table for opening night.
