West Yorkshire homebuilder takes fundraising to new heights for Leeds charity

Leeds-based developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West recently completed another fundraiser for its charity of the year, Zarach.

Following a golf day earlier this year which raised over £22,000 for the charity, 20 members of Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, raising over £3,000.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge consists of a 24-mile round trip, taking on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, totalling a 1,585-metre ascent, in less than 12 hours.

The developer is raising funds for Zarach, who were also founded in Leeds, and is on a mission to end child bed poverty across the UK.

Zarach’s story started in 2017 when a primary school teacher, Bex Wilson, rallied friends and family together to help provide beds for three pupils who were previously sleeping on a sofa cushion. Since then, the charity has provided over 14,000 beds to those in need, helping them to engage better at school.

Rachael Winder, Business and Corporate Partnerships Manager at Zarach, said: “It’s fantastic to have the support of Barratt and David Wilson Homes on our mission to end child bed poverty.

“Our partnership will make a lasting impact on vulnerable children who would otherwise spend another night sleeping on the floor, or in makeshift beds.”

Gavin Birch, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said: “I am so proud of our team who took part in this tough challenge for a good cause. We are delighted to continue our support for Zarach, our charity of the year.

“The work that Zarach carries out to end child bed poverty across the UK is admirable and we’re extremely grateful to have the opportunity to fundraise for such a worthwhile cause.

“Thank you to everyone who has donated to the fundraiser, and we’re asking anyone able to also consider supporting.”
