Rewards app encouraging greener journeys launches in West Yorkshire
People across West Yorkshire are being invited to take part in a new region-wide programme that rewards everyday active and sustainable journeys.
BetterPoints encourages the people of West Yorkshire to walk, wheel, cycle and make more use of the bus and train network across the region.

Every eligible journey earns points that can be exchanged for vouchers to spend at a range of retailers or donated to local charities. In addition, users can also earn tickets to enter prize draws to win a range of prizes.
By making more sustainable travel choices, users are helping to create a healthier and greener West Yorkshire, whilst earning rewards which helps to support the local economy.

Local businesses and charities are encouraged to get involved. By joining the platform, organisations can benefit from increased visibility, new customers and community support through donations made with BetterPoints rewards.
The launch builds on the success of BetterPoints programmes already running across the UK, including in South and North Yorkshire, where similar schemes have helped thousands of people walk and cycle more often while supporting local businesses and charities.
Funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority as a pilot, the BetterPoints app is free to download, and the scheme is open to anyone who lives, works or studies in Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds or Wakefield.
To support the launch of the app in West Yorkshire, BetterPoints has teamed up with Huddersfield Town Football Club and Bradford City Football club ahead of the weekend’s match between the two sides. Fans attending the game will have the opportunity to win exclusive prizes by downloading the app and earning points.
Huddersfield Town – Rachel Taylor, Supporter Services Manager said:“Encouraging fans to travel to games in healthier and more sustainable ways fits well with our own ambitions, and we’re pleased to support the launch of BetterPoints across West Yorkshire. The derby between two West Yorkshire teams is a great opportunity to help promote something that benefits the wider community.”
Fans who download the app before the game and travel actively or by public transport to home matches in the next week will be entered automatically into a special prize draw to win prizes including free tickets to matches.
Jack Windle, Chief Sustainable Transport Officer at BetterPoints said: “Active travel is one of the simplest ways to improve population health, but it needs to feel accessible and worthwhile. BetterPoints helps remove barriers by rewarding everyday journeys and supporting healthier habits while connecting people with local businesses and charities. Launching around a local derby is a great way to build momentum and friendly rivalry around positive change.”
Anyone across West Yorkshire can download the BetterPoints app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Once signed up, the app simply measures their everyday journeys and users start earning points automatically.
Retailers and charities can get in contact with the BetterPoints West Yorkshire Team via the app to learn more about how they can be involved.
