Knit & Natter club in the sun at Cookridge Court
Residents at Cookridge Court care home are making the most of the weather as a heat wave hits Leeds, and people across the region enjoy the warmest weather of the year so far.
Big parasols have been put up above the outdoor sitting area for those who enjoy a spot of al fresco dining, and sun hats and high factor sun cream are in abundance.

The home has a wonderful garden and there are lots of shaded areas for residents to sit outside with a book or like the resident of Cookridge Court’s knitting group…Knit!
With temperatures so high, it has been lovely to get out into the fresh summer’s air and for the homes knitting group, it was a great idea to take the weekly Knit & Natter group, which runs every Friday morning, outside too!

it is important for everyone to keep hydrated. The hospitality team has been busy preparing jugs of ice tea and lemonade to help hydration levels.
Strawberries and ice cream have been in high demand and the warm weather has brought with it memories of summers gone by, leading residents to reminisce about favourite summer holidays.
Joan said: “I love the warm weather. It’s so wonderful to be able to spend a little more time outside which I’m sure is good for both body and soul. I attend the weekly knit & natter group and it has been lovely to relax in the garden with others, chatting away and knitting.”
Sandra Roche said: "It is very important that residents enjoy this wonderful weather. It has been lovely to see the weekly Knit & Natter group outside, enjoying themselves and we look forward to finding other activities that enable those who can to get outdoors where possible.
"But it is also imperative that our residents stay cool and comfortable and don’t sustain a heat-related emergency. We’ve found shaded areas and ice-cold refreshing drinks a great way to cool down while enjoying a little sunshine.”
