GMI secures place on major public-sector construction framework

Leeds-based GMI Construction Group has secured places on four lots of a major new construction framework, opening up further opportunities to deliver public-sector projects across the North and Midlands.

The contractor, which has its headquarters in Leeds, was successful in all four lots it bid for under the new Crescent Construction framework, operated by Crescent Purchasing Consortium (CPC).

The framework provides public-sector organisations with a compliant route to procure new-build, refurbishment and other capital works, with GMI’s appointments covering both the North of England and Midlands.

It can be accessed by schools, colleges and universities as well as local authorities, blue-light services and other public bodies.

Unlike many construction frameworks, the lots secured by GMI are not divided into project value bands, allowing the company to compete for work across a broad range of project sizes.

The appointment further strengthens GMI’s growing public-sector portfolio, with more than one in four of its current construction projects being delivered for public-sector clients.

Public-sector work now represents 26% of GMI’s live projects, secured through construction frameworks, direct awards and traditional competitive tenders.

Stuart Holmes, Group Strategy Director at GMI Construction Group, who leads the company’s frameworks and public-sector strategy, said: “Securing a place on every lot we targeted is a fantastic result and an important step in the continued growth of our public-sector business.

“Our appointment across the North and Midlands aligns directly with GMI’s regional structure and supports our long-term strategy to build a balanced and resilient pipeline of public and private-sector work.

“With no value bands, the framework gives us the flexibility to support CPC members across a broad range of projects, bringing our regional expertise, disciplined preconstruction approach and focus on Exceptional Delivery. We look forward to working closely with CPC and demonstrating the value GMI can bring as a trusted delivery partner.”

The Crescent Construction framework supports both new-build and refurbishment projects and provides clients with a choice of procurement routes, including direct award and further competition.

GMI has been appointed to NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract routes covering professional services and design and build in both the North and Midlands.

Darren Lowe, Managing Director at Crescent Purchasing Consortium (CPC) said: “We are pleased to welcome GMI Construction Group onto the Crescent Construction framework. Their appointment across these lots strengthens the choice and capability available to our members, giving all public-sector organisations, including the education sector access to experienced regional contractors who have a strong track record in delivering high-quality construction projects.

“The framework has been designed to provide compliant, flexible and efficient routes to market for a wide range of capital works, and GMI’s inclusion will support members in procuring projects that deliver value, quality, and long-term benefits across all public sectors.

“As a not-for-profit charity focused on supporting the education sector, the CPC is committed to ensuring that the value created through our frameworks goes beyond procurement efficiency. Our work enables us to reinvest in initiatives that support SEND, Wellbeing and Absenteeism across the education sector. To date we have designated for re-investment £2.7m of funding for giving back initiatives.

“Strengthening member services and supporting institutions to make the most of their resources is a key driver for Crescent Purchasing Consortium.

“Working with suppliers who understand the needs of the public-sector, and the wider social impact needed, we can continue to deliver frameworks that not only meet immediate project requirements but also provide a significant contribution to our wider charitable objectives, and the communities our members serve.”
