Deadline for girls’ grassroots football teams to apply for free kits
Girls' grassroots football teams across West Yorkshire have just a few days remaining to apply for a free, brand-new kit and educational support package for the 2026-27 season.
The initiative, ‘More than a kit. Football United’, is a partnership between the Morrisons Foundation, the anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out, and the sports distribution experts Gift of Kit. Launched to help girls play, participate, and thrive in the sport, the programme aims to remove the barriers that prevent many young players from accessing the game. Research from Women in Sport indicates that 64% of girls drop out of sport by the age of 16, with one-third citing unsuitable kits as a primary reason for leaving. This initiative is specifically designed to support 30 girls' teams facing challenges such as limited funding, lack of access to equipment, or those operating in diverse communities. Successful applicants will receive a complete support package for the 2026-27 season, including numbered shirts, shorts, and socks, alongside access to Kick It Out’s ‘Creating an Inclusive Grassroots Club’ online learning course. Interested clubs are invited to share their story, outlining the impact they have on their local community and how this support would help create new opportunities. Applications must be submitted by the deadline of August 15 2026.
