Applications open for Wakefield Children's Charity funds

Wakefield Children’s Charity has announced that applications are now open for charities, not for profits and community organisations that support young people throughout the Wakefield district.

Responsible for Wakefield’s Annual Christmas Charity Lunch (WACCL), the charity has raised more than £400k since its launch in 2011.

Chair of the WACCL committee, Pat Langham, said: “Once again, we are opening the applications for WACCL funds.

"This is a genuine opportunity for charities and not-for-profit organisations that support young people to access the funding they need to continue the incredible work that they deliver.

“There is no specific requirement on what type of charity or organisation can apply.

"We have purposefully structured the process to ensure it is inclusive and welcoming of all requests.

"We look forward to receiving applications from beneficiaries we have supported in the past and those that are looking to secure funds for the first time.”

During 2025/6 WACCL, in partnership with Prosper Wakefield District, supported Levi’s Star, Theatre Royal Wakefield, National Coal Mining Museum, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, Cross Project, St Georges, Cyclists Fighting Cancer, Seaglass Collective, Give a Duck Foundation, Homestart, Stepping Stones Baby Bank, Small Steps Uniform Bank and Normanton School Uniform Exchange.

After generous contributions from across the business community, alongside match-funding of £25k from Prosper Wakefield District, the event raised an impressive £50,000 during 2025, and it is hoped with increase that to £55k during 2026.

Any organisations that would like to apply to be considered as beneficiaries in 2024 should email: [email protected] for an application form. The deadline for all applications is Monday September 7 2026.
