Wakefield Belle Vue goes retro

One of Wakefield's popular themed nights, the Retro Revival Party Night at Belle Vue Conservative Club on Doncaster Road, continues to attract music lovers from across Wakefield and the Five Towns.

Held on the last Saturday of every month, the popular Retro Revival Party Night has become a favourite night out for the over-thirties, celebrating the iconic music and style of the seventies, eighties and nineties.

This August, however, the party will begin earlier at 5pm to coincide with Wakefield Trinity RLFC's home fixture against the York Knights.

Hosted by local Disc Jockey Jon Butler, who performs as DJ Jonny Chardonnay and runs the local retro mobile disco service Jonny's Retro Roadshow, the Retro Revival Party Night takes guests down memory lane with three unforgettable decades.

Featuring classic anthems from the seventies, eighties and nineties, the evening is packed with nostalgia, feel-good favourites and an infectious party atmosphere that keeps guests dancing from start to finish.

Guests are invited to dig out their seventy’s flares and neon leg warmers for a night of nostalgia, fun and unforgettable memories.

DJ Jonny Chardonnay will take everyone on a musical journey, playing all the biggest hits while dressed in full fancy dress to match the occasion.

With the recent resurgence of retro trends, this promises to be a night to remember, complete with a dose of karaoke for budding singers who fancy taking to the mic. Fancy dress is encouraged, although not compulsory, so everyone is welcome to let their hair down, sing along and relive the memories.

Club Manager Victoria Ramsay said: “It is much more than just a club – we have built a fantastic membership community and are always delighted to welcome new members.

"Our retro party nights have proved incredibly popular and continue to attract lots of interest. The club has gone from strength to strength, with a varied programme of events throughout the year, and we always look forward to welcoming new visitors to our friendly, family-oriented venue.”

With more than a third of UK clubs closing since 2020, according to the Night Time Industries Association, changing social habits have transformed the nightlife scene.

Younger generations are drinking less, socialising online more and increasingly opting for entertainment at home instead of costly nights out. Local DJ Jon Butler believes social clubs are helping to fill that gap.

He said: “Generation X and Millennials are playing a vital role in supporting local social clubs. Our retro party nights offer a fun, affordable night out where people can enjoy great music, meet friends and relive the best of the seventies, eighties and nineties. We would love people to come along and support us at Belle Vue Conservative Club.”

The next party night will be on August 29, starting at 5pm. All tickets are free and can be collected from the club’s bar on Doncaster Road weekdays 5-11.30pm and weekends noon-11.30pm Phone the club on (01924) 380216 for more information or find tickets online at Skiddle and Eventbrite. Entry on the night is first come first served by ticket due to popular demand.

The Belle Vue Conservative Club is at 158 Doncaster Road, Wakefield (WF1 5HL), positioned close to the historic Belle Vue rugby ground (home of Wakefield Trinity).
