It was due to be held at the re-homing centre on York Road on Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1 but will no longer go ahead this year.

Organisers shared the decision on Twitter, saying they were "sad" but the terrible weather had made the car park and marquee field unsafe.

They said: "We have made the sad decision to cancel this years #Santa Paws event.

"We are very sad and sorry to announce that due to adverse weather conditions, we can no longer safely hold our Santa Paws Weekend.

"This is due to the terrible weather we have had making our car park and our marquee field very boggy and unsafe to use."

"We apologise for any disappointment, but wish you all very Merry Christmas."

At last year's event, visitors had the chance to have their photograph taken with Santa Paws in Santa’s Grotto, browse gift and craft stalls and take part in raffles and tombolas.

People can still support the dogs at Dogs Trust Leeds by purchasing them a gift on their Amazon wishlist.
