Rock band cancels shows following 'medical emergency' - but Leeds gig to go ahead

Indie icons The Enemy have been forced to cancel a string of highly anticipated shows this week following a family medical emergency.

The Coventry trio, comprised of Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins, and Liam Watts, issued an urgent statement on Monday via their management, confirming that their scheduled performances at King Tut’s in Glasgow (Monday) and The Caves in Edinburgh (Tuesday) would no longer go ahead.

Management for the band shared the news on social media, explaining that the members had to rush home immediately, with a statement reading: "Due to a family medical emergency within the band, they have had to rush back home and both tonight's show at King Tut's Glasgow and tomorrow night at The Caves Edinburgh have been cancelled.

Refunds will be issued within the next 24 hours. We are so sorry for the disappointment caused. Your support means the world to the band. Thank you on their behalf for being so understanding of the circumstances."

The news comes at a bittersweet time for the band, who are currently celebrating the release of their fifth studio album, Social Disguises, which officially drops this Friday, February 20.

Following the announcement, fans flooded the band's Instagram comments with well-wishes, echoing the sentiment that ‘family comes first.’

One fan penned, ‘Hope all is well, family should always come first, the shows can wait,’ while another added, ‘Sending lots of positivity and healing vibes your way.’

But despite the immediate cancellations north of the border, there is currently no change to the band's scheduled appearance in Leeds.

The group is still set to perform an intimate album launch show at the Brudenell Social Club on February 27and, as it stands, fans in West Yorkshire can still expect the gig to go ahead as planned, alongside their scheduled performance at London’s 100 Club on March 4.

The Enemy first shot to fame in 2007 when their debut album, We'll Live and Die in These Towns, went straight to number one. After a six-year hiatus, they reunited in 2022 and have been gearing up for the release of Social Disguises - their first record in over a decade.
