British soul icon Omar announces Leeds date as part of 40th anniversary grassroots tour - date and tickets

A defining voice of British soul, Omar Lye-fook MBE, is returning to Leeds this summer as part of a major nationwide tour.

Celebrating an incredible 40 years as a recording artist, Omar’s Brighter The Days tour is more than just a trip down memory lane, but instead a vital partnership with the Music Venue Trust (MVT) to support the UK’s struggling grassroots music scene.

This specific tour is unique because it is backed by the Liveline Fund, a new initiative from the Music Venue Trust and Save Our Scene (SOS).

The fund is powered by a "grassroots levy" - a small contribution from arena and stadium ticket sales (from the likes of Sam Fender and Coldplay) that is funnelled back down to help smaller, independent venues stay afloat.

By touring exclusively through these grassroots spaces, Omar is returning to the heart of the communities that first championed his sound four decades ago.

The tour also supports his ninth studio album of the same name - a project Omar has described as his "magnum opus."

Known for his effortless blend of jazz, funk, R&B, and Caribbean rhythms, Omar is perhaps best known for the timeless hit ‘There’s Nothing Like This,’ though his career has seen him collaborate with everyone from Stevie Wonder to Erykah Badu.

Erykah Badu once famously said, "I am healed all over when he sings," and his MBE was awarded for his services to the British music industry.

When is Omar playing in Leeds?

Omar will perform at The Old Woollen in Farsley on May 30, joined by soulful house vocalist Steve Edwards.

When can I get tickets to see Omar in Leeds?

Tickets for the tour are on sale now through both Omar’s official website or through See Tickets and Ents24.

Tickets are priced at £28.10 (this includes a £25.00 face value plus a £0.60 venue levy that goes directly to supporting the space) and the event is 14+ - but those under 18 will need to be accompanied by a paying adult.
