Temple Newsam is set to be transformed into an interactive winter wonderland as Northern Lights returns with a brand-new storyline, 13 illuminated zones, and festive street food

The countdown is officially on as Northern Lights prepares to return to the historic grounds of Temple Newsam with a completely reimagined festive light trail.

Titled ‘The Lost Light of Christmas,’ the all-ages experience invites visitors to embark on a mile-long interactive journey through the historic estate, following an enchanting narrative to help the faeries of Temple Newsam find the missing light of Christmas.

Since debuting in Leeds in 2024, around 200,000 people have stepped into the immersive trail.

This year’s event promises a fresh perspective for both new and returning guests, featuring 13 distinct illuminated zones accompanied by original narrative and music from Hull-based production duo Broken Orchestra, alongside light installations crafted locally in Shipley.

Returning alongside the trail is the popular Northern Lights Christmas Village, complete with vintage fairground rides, fire pits for marshmallow roasting, mulled wine, and hot chocolate.

A curated line-up of local street food vendors will be serving throughout the run, including returning favourites Otley Burgers, Diamond Dogs, and Alpine Pizza Co., alongside a new offering from the Salt and Pepper Shack.

To mark Leeds City Council’s ‘Leeds 400’ milestone - commemorating the 400th anniversary of Leeds receiving its first Royal Charter - organisers are donating 400 free tickets to community groups across the city.

Paul Robson, Event Director at From The Fields, said: “We are all so thrilled to be bringing this completely new version of Northern Lights to Leeds this winter. If you’ve visited us at Temple Newsam before and think you know our trails, think again! We have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes to take things up a notch, and we can’t wait to open our gates to the magical realm we have created.

“We are also incredibly proud to be supporting the local council and celebrating their 400th birthday. We have built such a strong relationship with the city since starting here in 2024, and feel honoured to be able to pay it back into the community.”
