‘Loved it’: The Leeds Light Night attraction that caught the eye last night - reaction

“Still got the song stuck in my head now!”

The nights might be getting darker earlier but for a few days Leeds will be shining bright thanks to the return of a dazzling annual light festival.

Landmarks across the city have been transformed by spectacular displays for this year’s Light Night. Thousands of visitors flocked to the city centre on Wednesday (October 28) for the opening evening.

If you couldn’t make it on the first day, worry not, because Light Night will return for a second time today (October 30).

The highlight for many on the opening evening was the display at The Queens Hotel, which also caught the eye of the YEP’s photographer. See our gallery for a taste of what to expect!

Deborah Ann Robinson said: “Queens hotel and the Trinity Robots were fantastic!” Shelia Booth echoed: “Queens Hotel was really good.”

Julia Corby added: “Loved the Queens’ display.” Joining in with the chorus, Jan Shadbolt wrote: “The Queens Hotel one was fabulous. Still got the song stuck in my head now!”

YEP reader Tim Collins described the Queens Hotel display as “wonderful”.

However, not everyone enjoyed the lights at the Queens Hotel this year. In a rare contrasting opinion, Rachel Morgan said: “Civic Hall projection great, Queens a let down and can we have some variation in Trinity always seems to be drummers and limited visibility. Remember the tightrope walker one year.”

Delia Moreland said: “Me and my son loved it so much in fact we off again tomorrow (Thursday).”

Jane Mansfield said: “Brilliant. Loved Corn Exchange dance, civic hall display, the leeds library, board assembly halls, st John's church. Great atmosphere and free.”

Not all the visitors left happy, with the crowds proving to be a negative for some of the attendees. Reyhana Alborz wrote: “We went last night, massively disappointed!

“The Trinity performance was good but we couldn’t see anything as it was jam packed and so was the corn exchange! The light displays were just unimpressive and uninteresting!”

Nicola Dickinson added: “Not much to see compared to previous years. (The) best part for me and my family was the butterflies.”

Amber Smith said: “Disappointed compared to previous years. Couldn’t find many of the exhibits.”
