Lines reopen but rail delays expected until 10pm after Leeds power outage

Hundreds of commuters watched in frustration this afternoon after all services were either cancelled or delayed at Leeds Railway Station.

A power outage nearby caused chaos, not just for local services but for trains across the country.

It led to signal failure on the tracks leaving service and people stranded.

National Rail have said services have since resumed, but they are not expected to be back up to full speed until 5pm.

In a further update they have now warned that disruption is expected until 10pm.

Footage shows crowds of passengers waiting at the train station after a fault with the signalling system blocked train lines.

Erin Rivers, who recorded the video and posted it to TikTok, said she had just ran the Leeds Abbey Dash and was trying to get home when she found that the trains were delayed.

There were also problems reported at Leeds Bus Station where a fire alarm led to its closure this afternoon, but that was resolved within a short time.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “At around 10.50am, a defective cable caused a signalling failure affecting several platforms at Leeds station.

“Engineers attended site and restored power by 1.20pm.

“Some services were cancelled or delayed, and passengers are advised to continue checking before they travel.

“We apologise for the disruption and thank passengers for their patience.”
