Wakefield Trinity news: 5 players to leave at end of season including ex-Leeds Rhinos, Castleford Tigers men
Wakefield Trinity have confirmed the departure of five first team players, including three who featured in last Saturday’s 28-12 win against York Knights.
Trinity say winger Lachlan Walmsley, scrum-half Mason Lino and forward Jay Pitts will all leave the club at the end of this season, along with outside-back Will Tate and forward Noah High. The club had already confirmed hooker Tyson Smoothy is moving to new NRL side Perth Bears and centre/winger Cam Scott has signed for Bradford Bulls.
Four of the players are in the final year of their contract, but Pitts’ current deal runs until the end of next season.

The 36-year-old - whose former clubs include Leeds Rhinos, Hull FC and Bradford Bulls - is in his second spell with Wakefield, having come through the club’s academy ranks and made his debut in 2008. He rejoined Wakefield six years ago and made his 450th career appearance in the win against York.
Lino, 32, signed for Trinity from NRL outfit Newcastle Knights ahead of the 2021 season and has played more than 130 times for the West Yorkshire club. The former Samoa international has been strongly linked with a move to neighbours Castleford Tigers.
Walmsley, an Australian-born Scotland international, is in his third season with Trinity, having previously played for Whitehaven and Halifax Panthers. The 28-year-old has scored 18 tries in 24 Super League games for Wakefield, including a brace against York.
Tate, 24, began his professional career at Hull KR and signed for Trinity from Castleford in pre-season on a one-year deal. He has scored seven tries in 10 games. High, 21, linked up with Wakefield from Warrington at the start of 2025 and has had spells on loan at Batley Bulldogs and Oldham without being able to break into Trinity’s Super League side.
